The American Baptist mission statement calls every one of its members to radical personal discipleship and prioritizes ministries such as leadership, healthy missional churches, new church planting, youth, and mutual faithfulness.
We believe that the committed individual Christian can and should approach God directly, and that individual gifts of ministry should be shared. We encourage one another to make the most of our God-given abilities, and allow the Holy Spirit to be seen through our words and actions.
When a group of people gather regularly and share their lives with one another, they become a family. Our family is fun and diverse! We gather to eat meals together in the Fellowship Hall throughout the year and strengthen our bond with varying activities such as game night, movie night, sharing our testimonies and even playing Bocce Ball. We have a blast and would love everyone to join us!
Not only does one need a healthy spirit, but also a healthy body. Food is an essential necessity and still many people in our own community have difficulty getting enough of it. Located downstairs, near the exit door, there is a double door metal cabinet food pantry stocked with various types of donated non-perishable items, such as canned vegetables and fruits, pasta and cereal, as well as personal hygiene products. The need is great and the supply runs low quickly, so continued donations are needed and much appreciated.
This is one of our newest ministries. Its mission is to provide an on-line network for our church family to communicate and obtain information on current events at Voluntown Baptist Church. It will also create an opportunity for those in our community to gather some answers to questions they may have about us and alleviate the trepidations of being "new" and feeling at a loss in an effort to present a more welcoming feeling and add members to our church family.
